Two New Ways to Play Cricket Champions: Solo Mode & T20 Series Are Here

If you're the kind of person who gets goosebumps from a perfectly timed yorker or cheers out loud for a six over midwicket, Cricket Champions is probably already on your shelf. And if it’s not yet, you’re about to get a solid reason to make space for it.

Introducing two exciting new ways to play: Solo Mode (for those “it’s just me today” moments) and the T20 Series Variant (for fast, high-energy cricket matches in board game form). These formats are designed to keep gameplay quick, challenging, and just as dramatic as the original.

Whether you love experimenting with strategy on your own, or you want a breezy 30-minute match with friends, these modes bring new life to Cricket Champions—without changing what made it fun in the first place.

What’s New in Cricket Champions?

If you’re new to the game, Cricket Champions is a dice-rolling, XP-spending cricket board game that mirrors the thrill of a real match. You use batting and bowling dice, play XP cards, chase championship points, and outscore or out-wicket your opponents.

Now, two new formats bring more flexibility to the table:

  • Solo Mode – Play against smart, no-fuss AI opponents when no one's around.
  • T20 Series Variant – Higher scoring format.

Both are available as rule add-ons. And they work seamlessly with your existing game setup.

Solo Mode – When You’re the Whole Team

Let’s be real. Sometimes your game night crew cancels. Or you're in the mood for a one-player challenge. That’s exactly where the Solo Mode steps in.

You’ll face one or more AI opponents that:

  • Don’t collect XP tokens (nor start with 2 XP tokens)
  • A.I opponents do not buy XP cards using XP tokens.  In player order, each A.I opponent will automatically select the highest cost XP card. In case of a tie, the A.I will select the left most card.

Key changes in game format:

  • Each player, including A.I opponents, can re-roll their dice once. They can choose to re-roll some, or all of their dice, but only once (excluding XP card effects).
  • After rolling all the batting dice, the runs scored for that over are the sum of all the numbers on the dice.

And yes, you make decisions in the AI’s best interest in unclear situations—which means it’s genuinely challenging.

“How the AI plays: Simple rules, real competition.”

Whether you’re practising strategies, testing out card combos, or just looking for a satisfying solo board game experience, this variant makes Cricket Champions one of the most engaging solo board games in India (and beyond).

T20 Series Variant – Shorter Matches, Bigger Drama

Love the T20 format of the game and want to go all out on sixes? This faster variation is for you.

Key changes in this format:

  • Each player, including A.I opponents, can re-roll their dice once. They can choose to re-roll some, or all of their dice, but only once (excluding XP card effects).
  •  After rolling all the batting dice, the runs scored for that over are the sum of all the numbers on the dice.
  • The T20 Series game ends after 5 rounds or immediately after the over in which any player is eliminated or takes the 10 th wicket. Proceed directly to final scoring. (All out players are also eligible for scoring)

Here's a quick example of how run-scoring works in the T20 series format:

T20 Run Scoring example

It’s cricket night in a compact format. Big hits. Quick turns. High-stakes scoring. The perfect setup for casual players, tournaments, or late-night rematches.

Easy, No-Fuss AI

Both modes use a smart, streamlined AI system. You roll the dice for AI players and check results using a simple reference chart. No complicated logic trees. No decision paralysis.

And don’t underestimate it... AI players can snatch XP cards, knock down your best batters, and leave you scrambling for runs. If you're not paying attention, you'll be beaten by cardboard.

Score Like a Pro with the T20 Scoring Sheet

To make the T20 Series mode smoother, there’s a printable scoring sheet that helps you keep track of:

  • Runs scored and wickets lost
  • Orange/Purple Cap winners
  • XP bonuses and card achievements

It’s perfect for friendly matches or building your own living room cricket league.
